Since you asked for advice (and admittedly I REALLY should be doing my homework right now), right now my advice is COLOR. And when I mean color, I don't mean challenging the dark twist in your work. I want RED and GREEN and whatever color to mean something to me. Make them bold. (for example, the background color should be darker or lighter in color and solid/ or the figure should be darker or lighter and solid in color.)
Although the printed quality here, the scribbles, I mean, is unique, it's not attention grabbing. The background has become far more important than the depiction of the bloody heart and the hole where it used to be.
Also, have the critter holding the bar, not just on the other side of it. Then he is interacting with the box, rather than being bound by it.
Once again, clean the whites, it'll make the box look more professional. There are smudges done on purpose and ones that aren't.
And the final, I like the scribble marks for the background, but make sure they're all going the same direction, UNLESS there is a reason that they shouldn't. Right now some of the marks are being pointed at the figure and the rest are horizontal. Pick what you'd like them to do. They can really direct a viewer's eye.
